In the sleepy town of Astor Crossing, something evil stirs…

CathedralShafts of moonlight filtered through the trees, casting eerie shadows on the tower of Astor Crossing’s 7th street cathedral. An owl screeched, and somewhere in the night a dog howled. Tristan shivered and peered up toward the peek of the tower. Its serrated edge clawed a dark silhouette across the moonlit sky.

He stared at the striking image for several minutes before lowering his eyes. A light glowed through a lancet window near the back of the church. Its stained glass shimmered with unsteady light. Tristan stepped toward it.

“Tristan.” A voice launched his heart into his throat as a shadow shot toward him. “What are you doing here?”

A girl flung herself at him, entwining him with arms and legs.

“Erin!” Tristan gathered together his adrenaline-shot extremities as his girlfriend squeezed him.

She whispered in his ear. “Scaredy cat!”

Tristan chuckled and tried to regain his composure. “How was I supposed to know it was you?”

“This is the church Tristan.” Erin kissed him and held him at arms length. “You know, like where God lives? What did you expect to find here, ghosts and zombies?”

“Well,” Tristan said, “churches and graveyards do kind of go together.”

Erin’s eyes twinkled in the night. “You’ve been watching too many scary movies.”

She took his hand and pulled him toward the narthex. The cathedral door creaked open. Moonlight illuminated the slate floor, marbled pillars, and the great chandelier. Their footsteps echoed through the cathedral. Erin’s hand gripped the iron gate that blocked their path to the undercroft.

“However, if you’re into creepy,”—Erin glance back at Tristan and the hinges squeaked as she pushed the rot iron inward and stepped into the stairwell—“just follow me…”

You’ve just met two of the main characters in my upcoming novel, The Fiercest Fight. I’ve had some setbacks with this book, but I am excited to say that it will be released in November. I will keep you posted…
